Thriving Sectors for Investment in Nigeria

  • Information Technology Sector (IT): The IT sector is vast, consisting of companies involved in technological innovation. These companies provide either technological products (hardware) or services (software). Some of the dominant companies in this sector include Microsoft, Apple, Amazon, and NCR Nigeria. Many of the most valued companies in the world are tech companies.
  • Healthcare:  This sector is quite broad and the industries within this sector are Drugs, Medical equipment, managed healthcare, and Healthcare facilities. The dominant companies in this sector include UnitedHealth Group, CVS Health Corp, Vertex Pharmaceuticals, Fidson Healthcare and Ekocorp.
  • Energy Sector: The energy sector covers companies that produce and supply energy. It includes companies involved in renewable energy, oil and gas exploration and production and electric utility. This sector is vital to the economy as it provides fuel and power needed to drive most economic activities. In Nigeria, it is also one of the thriving sectors although it is sometimes referred to as the oil and gas sector. Examples of companies in this sector include Chevron, ExxonMobil, Seplat Energy, Total Nigeria and Conoil.
  • Telecommunications Sector: This sector consists of companies that make communication possible on a global level. Companies in the sector include telephone operators, satellite companies, cable companies, and Internet service providers. Nigeria has one of the largest telecommunications markets in Africa and has been contributing significantly to Nigeria’s economic growth. Top foreign companies in this sector include AT&T, Verizon, and Vodafone while the dominant local companies include MTN Nigeria Communications, Airtel Africa.
